How to Connect/Re-connect Scanner (Pre V10)

This article applies to VisitorRego versions prior to V10. For information on how to connect/re-connect a scanner in V10 or higher, please refer to the knowledge base article How to Connect/Re-connect Scanner.

The barcode scanner is connected using a COM port. In VisitorRego versions prior to V10 the assigned COM port for the scanner needs to be configured in VisitorRego settings.

Finding the assigned COM port number


Open Devices and Printers. a shortcut icon may be found on the desktop.



Or select Devices and Printers from the Start Menu.


 

Under Unspecified you should see the device. Take note of the COM port number.


In this example the scanner is assigned to COM11
 

Troubleshooting:

“I don’t see any Honeywell Bidirectional Device OR there is no (COM#)”

a.       Make sure the Scanner is plugged in and showing a blue light on the top.
b.      Unplug and re-plug into a different USB port.

Setting the scanner COM port in VisitorRego

 
Once you have the COM port number for the scanner, open VisitorRego. From Admin Mode go to Options> System Setup.



Click on the Scanners+ tab.


 
In the scanner tab, change the Scanner COM port that VisitorRego is listing to the correct COM port.



Click Apply to save your changes, then restart VisitorRego (required).
